Aircon Always Running? Here’s What It’s Telling You

If your aircon never seems to turn off — even when the room feels cold — it’s not normal. A system that runs non-stop is often compensating for an issue. And that issue could be costing you in power, comfort, and future repairs.
Common Causes of a Constantly Running Aircon
1. Temperature set too low
Trying to hit 18°C in a sunlit room? Your system may never get there — it just keeps running to try.
2. Undersized aircon
If your unit isn’t sized correctly for the room, it will keep working overtime to maintain the temperature.
3. Warm air entering the space
Poor insulation, open windows, or door gaps let heat in. Your aircon tries to cool, but the room keeps reheating.
4. Thermostat reading the room wrongly
If it’s installed near electronics or direct sunlight, the thermostat may “think” the room is hot when it’s not.
5. Weak airflow
Clogged filters, dirty blower, or choked coils slow cooling. That makes the system run longer than necessary.
6. Internal fault — not dirt
If cooling is weak even after a clean, you could be looking at a gas drop, fan motor issue, or sensor failure.
What You Can Check Yourself
Is the room already cold, but the unit keeps running?
Are doors and windows properly closed?
Filters clean and airflow strong?
Does the aircon ever shut off, even after hours?
If not — it’s likely time for a deeper check.
Why It Matters
A system that runs non-stop isn't more effective.
It’s less efficient — and that shows up in your bills and system lifespan.
Risks of leaving it unchecked:
Electricity usage goes up
System wear happens faster
Faults may worsen over time (e.g. gas issues, PCB faults)
What seems like a small habit can quietly snowball into a costly breakdown.
When to Book a Diagnostic
Book a proper system check if:
✅ The unit never shuts off
✅ Cooling feels inconsistent
✅ You haven’t serviced it in over a year
✅ You’re unsure what’s causing the issue
We’ll assess and explain the fault. No blind guesswork. No pressure.
