Summary

The sensor receiver in your indoor aircon unit detects infrared signals from your remote control. When it fails, your aircon may stop responding, change modes erratically, or ignore commands completely. This guide explains what the sensor receiver does, what damages it, and how to confirm the real fault before replacing the wrong part.

What the Sensor Receiver Does

Mounted on the indoor unit, the sensor receiver picks up IR signals from your remote and relays them to the PCB. It’s what lets your system register commands like power on/off, temperature adjustment, and fan speed changes. If the receiver fails, the unit can’t interpret or respond to instructions — even if the remote is working fine.

What Damages the Sensor Receiver

Moisture exposure

Condensation, wet hands, or environmental humidity can cause corrosion or short circuits on the receiver board.

Electrical surge

Voltage spikes during storms or unstable power can burn out the delicate IR circuit.

Physical impact or alignment shift

Improper cleaning, knocks to the casing, or rough handling during servicing may misalign or damage the lens or receiver module.

Dust accumulation

Build-up on the IR lens or inside the housing can block signals and cause delayed or failed communication.

⚠️ If your remote works on other units but not this one — and batteries are fine — the sensor receiver is likely the issue, not the remote.

Repair or Replace?

Blocked lens or loose housing

A simple clean or reconnection might solve the problem if there’s no internal damage.

Receiver board failure

In most cases, this component is replaced, not repaired. It’s a small, sealed module that controls signal reception.

Before replacing, always test the system with a working remote and check for PCB faults that may mimic receiver failure.

How to Prevent Sensor Receiver Issues

Keep the area dry

Avoid spraying water or cleaning agents near the receiver panel. Always wipe with a dry cloth only.

Avoid strong impact

Don’t press or knock the panel. Even mild impact can affect receiver alignment.

Service regularly

Technicians should check for dust buildup or board deterioration as part of routine maintenance.

What Happens If You Ignore It

✖ Unit may stop responding to remote commands entirely

✖ Mode switching or temperature changes may not register

✖ May lead to unnecessary PCB or system replacement

✖ Poor user experience, especially in hard-to-reach units

Final Word

The sensor receiver is the communication bridge between your aircon and remote. When it fails, control disappears — even if the system itself is still functional. Don’t assume the problem is your remote. Let us check the receiver properly before bigger parts get replaced unnecessarily.
