Water Leaking from Your Aircon?

If you see water dripping from your aircon — or pooling near the trunking or wall — something in the system has failed. Whether it’s blocked drainage, frozen coils, or a slope issue, the leak needs to be traced back to its root. Don’t just mop it up. Fix it properly.

Common Reasons Your Aircon Is Leaking Water

1. Blocked drainage pipe

Dust, algae, or debris can clog the drainage line. When water can’t exit the system, it backs up and spills out through the casing or pipes.

2. Coil frozen — then melting

If your evaporator coil freezes (due to low gas, airflow blockage, or fan failure), it defrosts as liquid — often overflowing the tray.

3. Condensate tray damaged

A cracked, rusted, or misaligned tray can leak water directly into the unit casing or onto the floor.

4. Trunking slope is wrong

If the drainage piping isn't sloped correctly, water pools or flows backward — often leaking from connection points or seams.

5. Filters are dirty

Blocked filters reduce airflow, overcooling the coil. That increases condensation and raises leak risk — especially during extended use.

6. Drain pipe disconnected

We’ve seen this in rushed installations. If the pipe isn’t secured or sealed, water never reaches the outlet — it leaks out mid-path.

7. Refrigerant leak

Low gas causes coil icing. Once it melts, water overwhelms the drainage tray. You’ll see leak + weak cooling together.

8. Aging or loose components

Seals, gaskets, or pipe joins may degrade over time — especially in older or rarely serviced units.

What You Can Check First

  • Is the drain pipe dripping normally outside?

  • Any visible ice on the coil or pipe?

  • Filters recently cleaned?

  • Leak happening during use — or after shutoff?

If water keeps forming, especially with weak cooling, a proper inspection is needed.

Why It Matters

A leak isn’t cosmetic. It’s structural.

If ignored:

  • Ceiling, flooring, or wall damage may follow

  • Electrical points may be exposed to water

  • Deeper issues (like gas loss) may be missed

  • Warranty or repair costs may rise if damage spreads

Leaks always have a cause. Treating the drip isn’t enough — solve what’s causing it.

When to Book a Diagnostic

✅ Water visible inside or under the unit

✅ Dripping from trunking or wall join

✅ Filters clean, but leak continues

✅ Occurs repeatedly even after cleaning

We’ll inspect slope, drainage, tray condition, gas balance, and coil performance to pinpoint the true fault.
