Air Still Feels Humid with Aircon On?

In Singapore’s climate, aircon isn’t just about cooling — it’s about controlling humidity. If your space still feels sticky or muggy even with the aircon running, the system may be failing to remove moisture properly. And that’s a sign something deeper needs checking.
Why Your Aircon Might Not Be Dehumidifying Properly
1. Oversized system
If your aircon cools too fast, it doesn’t run long enough to extract moisture from the air. This is common in smaller rooms with high-BTU units.
2. Weak cooling or low refrigerant
Cooling and dehumidifying are linked. If your system isn’t cooling efficiently, it also won’t extract moisture well.
3. Dirty filters or coils
Restricted airflow reduces cooling coil contact time. That lowers both cooling and dehumidification efficiency.
4. Blocked drainage
If the drain is clogged, condensate can back up or pool — stopping proper moisture removal.
5. Wrong settings
Running on “fan” mode or low-cool/high-fan combinations may circulate air without dehumidifying it effectively.
6. Poor room ventilation
If stale, humid air is trapped inside — or windows are poorly sealed — your aircon is constantly fighting an uphill battle.
7. Thermostat misplacement
If it’s installed near sunlight, a fan, or a heat source, it may misread conditions — turning the system off before enough humidity is removed.
What You Can Check First
Filters clean?
Drain pipe dripping properly?
Mode set to “cool,” not just “fan”?
Room sealed — or air leaking in?
If the air feels cold but damp — or you notice musty odors or condensation — your system likely isn’t extracting moisture properly.
Why It Matters
Poor dehumidification doesn’t just affect comfort.
If ignored:
Mold, mildew, and damp smells may form
Furniture and walls absorb moisture
System runs inefficiently, wasting energy
Humidity is harder to notice than heat — but more damaging in the long run.
When to Book a Diagnostic
✅ Room feels humid despite cooling
✅ Windows fog up or walls feel damp
✅ Musty smells when unit runs
✅ Filters clean but issue persists
We’ll test refrigerant levels, airflow, drainage, and coil behaviour — and advise what’s causing the imbalance.
