What Was Happening
Customer reported:
Aircon not cold, especially in the afternoon
Weak airflow despite high fan setting
Dust and slight smell coming from the vents
Unit was a window-mounted casement type. Had not been serviced in several years.
What We Found
Heavy Internal Buildup
Coil face was packed with dust and hardened lint, restricting airflow
Blower casing was coated with grime, reducing fan output
Drain outlet was partially blocked, causing backflow risk
Electrical connections slightly oxidised from moisture exposure over time
This level of internal buildup accumulates silently. Externally, the unit still looked “fine”.

What We Did
Full Service and Internal Flush
Disassembled front panel and blower access
Chemically flushed coil and drain outlet
Removed sludge, dust and fan buildup manually
Cleaned casing, checked electrical connections, confirmed drain flow
The Result
Cooling restored to full capacity
Airflow normalised — quiet and even
Drain cleared, smell eliminated
Customer advised on future service interval and signs to watch for
What Could’ve Gone Wrong
Coil and blower choking would continue, causing further cooling loss
Drain blockage could lead to internal leakage or water damage
Dust and microbial buildup could worsen indoor air quality
Motor strain from restricted airflow could burn out the fan or blower capacitor
What This Case Shows
Just because it runs, doesn’t mean it’s clean.
Casement units are often forgotten — but they choke up just like any split system.
This one ran for years without proper servicing. A clean faceplate hides what’s building up inside.
